Victor 10-Inch Double-Sided Acoustical Records
1908-1925

This page covers the 19000 series (actually a continuation of the 16000s) from 19000 to 19625 with issue dates ranging from 1923 to 1925 when electrical recording began. A few higher numbers were acoustically recorded and released during the conversion and will be listed here too. Earlier and later issues can be found on other pages. Pricing remained at 75¢ and manufacturing quality improved as the post-war depression faded into the past. Their aural nature remained boxy but improved a bit, but not close to what the Patent-Label Victors (1908-1913) sounded like. Smaller record companies like Gennett and OKeh began to record hotter and more authentic Jazz while Victor and Columbia stayed several years behind that trend. Victor's Black Label at this time was dominated by lighter sounds like Paul Whiteman, Waring's Pennsylvanians and Coon-Sanders Original Night Hawk Orchestra (the Night Hawks were sort-of hot though). Early Country Music made an appearance. The old studio musicians were also still present but electrical recording around the corner would spell the end for most of them.
