Pathé Actuelle Records
1920-1930

Pathé began making lateral records for the American market in 1920 (these being labeled as "Pathé Actuelle"). By 1921 the U.S. branch went bankrupt and reorganization saw the phasing out of vertical recordings by the end of 1922. However, the cumbersome practice of using giant master wax cylinders to pantograph to lateral discs continued. Sound and sales suffered until a too-late switch was made to electrical and direct recording of disc masters in 1927. Pathé in Europe was sold to the British Columbia Graphophone Company in 1928 while the Stateside branch became part of the new American Record Corporation (ARC) in 1929, only have its label discontinued the following year.
